Close to 40,000 fans experienced up close the emotions and tricks of the riders in the FMX and BMX modalities.

Six riders on motorcycles and five on bikes managed to win over the public by offering a world-class event.

The German Luc Ackermann managed to be crowned champion in the FMX modality , he does it for the second time after having also won in 2019.

The final was played by the young German together with the Australian Josh Sheehan and the Japanese Taka Higashino.

In BMX, the young Englishman Kieran Reilly stood out with his debut and victory , who obtained outstanding scores from the previous qualifying rounds. Second place went to Costa Rican Kenneth Tencio, who made a small mistake in the final round that took away important points.

For the first time, the event had “airbag landings”, which eliminated the use of land on the circuit , in addition, the risk decreases for the pilots and it does not depend so much on the weather.

My attention span has become increasingly small over the years. Just like everyone else.

When I saw a new Monster Energy video on Taka Higashino, I noticed it was 13 minutes 31 seconds and started to think about skipping past.

I figure I know enough about Taka that it wasn’t going to give me any extra info than a 5 second Insta clip from X Games last month.

Man, was I wrong.

I actually had goosebumps!

And it has been a while since I’ve had goosebumps watching moto vids. Except watching Carey Hart’s first backflip every time I see it…

Listening to Taka talk about what it took for him to get to America to become a Pro FMX rider is so cool, and it’s honestly something that a lot of people will never sacrifice to do. But Taka made it happen.

And from each decision and sacrifice he took, the more opportunities would present themselves later.

The best part for me personally, was when Taka said he jumped on Google Maps and found Metzger’s house on Satellite view. He drove there, knocked on the door and asked if he could go for a ride.

I remember vividly when I had almost the same experience from another Japanese rider, Yoshi San, who arrived at Queensland Moto Park. He sent his bike from Japan to Australia. He bought a shitbox Toyota Hiace and was sleeping in it.

He had been in Australia for a few months before he found our Moto Park. He wanted to ride FMX, so the guys in the office told him to go see Schuie. In the end, he was living at Schuie’s house for almost a year and was building jumps with us every day. Yoshi was just part of the furniture from then on and just one of the boys.

To hear that Taka Higashino did the exact same thing, and became one of the world’s best riders along the way, it was cool to hear the dedication and belief in himself and the rewards that came.

Adam Jones gives his wrap-up of the Freestyle Motocross competition in the latest Riders Lounge Podcast episode and gave one of the biggest compliments I think any rider would want to hear from a fellow rider!

Luc Ackermann took the gold medal at X Games, but I think this badge of honour has been coming for a while, so it was cool to hear Adam saying what he thinks.

X Games had it all!!!

We’re joined again by X Games Gold Medallist in Freestyle 2007, Adam Jones who knows more about this event than almost anyone else in the world!

el Presidente Antonio Navas returns with his views on the competition, plus Chris ‘Rocket’ Rose as a track builder to talk about the difficult course and Jose Gaspar as a former X Games judge to highlight points the judges would have been looking for.

Nate Adams won everything there is to win in Freestyle Motocross, and at the same time he was focused 100% on FMX progression, he began a glove-only brand called Deft Family which was revolutionary at the time.

We catch up with ‘The Destroyer’ to find out how he was able to continue to be the man to beat at the top of his sport, while learning all new skills in business, marketing, logistics and trying to get the feel out of his glove that he had striven for in the beginning.

Nate was in a special position to create gloves that even his fellow FMX competitors and friends all appreciated, having guys like Twitch, Taka Higashino, Jeremy McGrath and Travis Pastrana riding in gloves he had designed, it was the perfect launching pad on top of his own persona, to build a brand.

This is a Masterclass for any aspiring MX, FMX or Action Sports athlete, on how to find balance in your life, while working to become the best you can be, and also how to capitalise on the unique situation you can find yourself in.

We also find out how much of a toll on the body FMX takes when you are looking for back to back X Games Gold, or X-Fighters championships.  At 37 years of age, Nate has endured some horror injuries which are catching up with him now, but it doesn’t appear to have lessened his appeal for riding moto!

One of the nicest guys in the sport, Nate has been a role model on and off the bike, and looking at the business of moto, Nate has pioneered a specific market of MX gear with the Deft gloves and it’s awesome to see he’s still just a fan of FMX after a stellar career.
