Alta Motors have unfortunately gone under – but their legacy of creating the best Electric Dirt Bike certainly hasn’t.

Nate Adams was one of the lucky riders to jump one of these first and, certainly one of the first FMX riders to climb aboard.

His plans of taking it to all new locations that you couldn’t take a fossil fuel burning 2 or 4 stroke sounds unreal and I don’t think it will be too much longer until we finally get to see all new possibilities if the other manufacturer’s bring out their electric offerings.

Hurry up KTM! Husqvarna?? Honda revealed theirs.. where is Yamaha? Kawasaki or Suzuki? New re-brands like GASGAS?? (ahh doesn’t sound like it in that name!).

I’m all for the smell of premix of my 2 stroke, but I do like the opportunity that an emissions free electric dirt bike can give.

Especially without the number 1 killer of motocross tracks and parks – Sound.

Imagine trying to hold your own as one of the best FMX riders at the same time you are growing a brand in a niche that never really existed – and to do both of them at the best of your abilities?!!

Nate Adams managed to do both, continuing to dominate FMX events and win trophies at the same time he built DEFT FAMILY from the ground up.

It certainly wasn’t peaches and cream, there were a lot of high’s and low’s along the way for the business, and the riding. And a lot of the time, the two intersected I am sure.

If you have ever owned your own business, you will understand this situation very well.

If you have ever tried to be the best athlete in your sport, you’ll know how hard it is to have any time off to think about anything else.

Now imagine trying to do both at the same time.

I’m going to give Nate 20 points out of a possible 10 points for effort on this. That would have required every ounce of your concentration not to crash your brains out, or crash your company into the ground just as hard!

This is a sentiment that not many people will understand.

And it does sound crazy.

But it’s something I completely get, and something most action sports athletes will know either consciously or subconsciously.

Nate Adams did a great job of explaining what it takes to become the best in the world, in one of the most dangerous sports in the world.

He took the thoughts out of my mind and put it perfectly into words.

Nate touched also much more on the Balance needed in life. But, also knowing that you can’t put that fire out in people or they won’t go on to feats of greatness.

Would we have sent man to the moon without that fire? Probably not.

If you know anyone who wants to get into any Action Sport, I’d recommend them to listen to Nate’s words here and hear it from the horses mouth. He’s done it all!

Nate Adams won everything there is to win in Freestyle Motocross, and at the same time he was focused 100% on FMX progression, he began a glove-only brand called Deft Family which was revolutionary at the time.

We catch up with ‘The Destroyer’ to find out how he was able to continue to be the man to beat at the top of his sport, while learning all new skills in business, marketing, logistics and trying to get the feel out of his glove that he had striven for in the beginning.

Nate was in a special position to create gloves that even his fellow FMX competitors and friends all appreciated, having guys like Twitch, Taka Higashino, Jeremy McGrath and Travis Pastrana riding in gloves he had designed, it was the perfect launching pad on top of his own persona, to build a brand.

This is a Masterclass for any aspiring MX, FMX or Action Sports athlete, on how to find balance in your life, while working to become the best you can be, and also how to capitalise on the unique situation you can find yourself in.

We also find out how much of a toll on the body FMX takes when you are looking for back to back X Games Gold, or X-Fighters championships.  At 37 years of age, Nate has endured some horror injuries which are catching up with him now, but it doesn’t appear to have lessened his appeal for riding moto!

One of the nicest guys in the sport, Nate has been a role model on and off the bike, and looking at the business of moto, Nate has pioneered a specific market of MX gear with the Deft gloves and it’s awesome to see he’s still just a fan of FMX after a stellar career.
