<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ok &#8211; this completely blew me away.<br><br>During the interview with Jason Ryan, he dropped a bomb on me that Jose Yanez attempted the first ever Front Flip on a motorcycle in about 1983!<br><br>It would be at least another 25 years before anyone would even think about the Front Flip! Guys like Jim DeChamp, Paris Rosen, Tom and Charles Pages to name a few. Oh, not to mention Street Bike Tommy&#8217;s attempt on his street bike &#8211; but that wasn&#8217;t exactly planned.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you listen to the podcast, within the first 5 minutes of our interview, Jason Ryan talks all about how Jose tried the Front Flip &#8211; and why he thought it would be more possible than a backflip.<br>(which he went and landed in 1991 on a motorcycle after becoming the first to land it on a BMX in 1985)</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe title="Spotify Embed: Rewriting FMX and BMX backflip history - with Jason Ryan" width="100%" height="232" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" allow="encrypted-media" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed-podcast/episode/78idnt7NTzeBqvMFmSWztH?si=I3imANRoR1qsAkZnxoWeCA"></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Actually, that requires more thought.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Think about it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Jose Yanez in 1983 &#8211; thought it would be a better idea to FRONT FLIP his RM80 than to try a Backflip on a Bicycle.<br>In 1985 he landed the first ever BMX backflip<br>In 1991 he landed the first ever motorcycle backflip.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The guy is insane.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you want to see the footage, just like I do&#8230; then you can grab some Perks and help make the documentary come to life by visiting their GoFundMe page to help: https://gofund.me/61e3481a</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And here are the other Front Flips in the 2000s. There are more, but I liked these clips if you&#8217;ve forgotten them!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Freestyle Motocross is all about progression and Levi Sherwood has been one of the main drivers of progression throughout his career in competition and now outside of competition.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Throughout the last years of his professional career, Levi spent more time designing this new Next Gen ramp than perhaps even riding! And he was still winning all of the events.</p>

<h2 class="has-text-align-center wp-block-heading"><strong>What is the Next Gen?</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Basically it&#8217;s the scaled up version of &#8216;standard&#8217; ramps we see in FMX today.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>In the USA &#8211; they have &#8216;Rev&#8217; ramps which were designed about 20 years ago.</li><li>In Australia &#8211; it&#8217;s all about the &#8216;Aussie Comp&#8217; ramp which is a 9 metre radius</li><li>In Europe &#8211; mainly it&#8217;s about the 8 metre radius ramp but shorter distance</li></ul>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="alignleft size-large is-resized"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" src="https://i0.wp.com/ridersloungepodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Next-Generation-75ft-Kicker-vs-old-ramp.jpg?resize=355%2C266&#038;ssl=1" alt="Next Gen versus old 9m radius ramp" class="wp-image-314" width="355" height="266" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/ridersloungepodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Next-Generation-75ft-Kicker-vs-old-ramp-scaled.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/ridersloungepodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Next-Generation-75ft-Kicker-vs-old-ramp-scaled.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/ridersloungepodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Next-Generation-75ft-Kicker-vs-old-ramp-scaled.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/ridersloungepodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Next-Generation-75ft-Kicker-vs-old-ramp-scaled.jpg?resize=1536%2C1152&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/ridersloungepodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Next-Generation-75ft-Kicker-vs-old-ramp-scaled.jpg?resize=2048%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https://i0.wp.com/ridersloungepodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Next-Generation-75ft-Kicker-vs-old-ramp-scaled.jpg?w=1650&amp;ssl=1 1650w, https://i0.wp.com/ridersloungepodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Next-Generation-75ft-Kicker-vs-old-ramp-scaled.jpg?w=2475&amp;ssl=1 2475w" sizes="(max-width: 355px) 100vw, 355px" /><figcaption>(front) Old 9 metre radius ramp
(behind) NEW &#8211; Next Gen Ramp!</figcaption></figure></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Next Gen is about going bigger, giving the rider more time to do tricks, more air time and the chance for bigger variations. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And although it sounds counter-intuitive &#8211; from some reports it&#8217;s even safer, knowing the rider can get back on the bike with more time to spot the landing.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can Double Flip it&#8230; you can Front Flip it.. you can do just about anything on it!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Where can I get the plans!?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Right here&#8230;. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Levi the legend, said he&#8217;s more than happy for everyone to build it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But &#8211; be careful! It&#8217;s all about building it correctly as well. There&#8217;s no point having a bunch of ramps &#8216;close&#8217;. Because if you have jumped other ramps, you&#8217;ll know when someone makes a mistake, it could end up in tears.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So read the plans fully, take your time because the ramp will be around for 10 years or more</p>

<div class="wp-block-file"><a href="https://ridersloungepodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Next-generation-75ft-2.pdf"><strong><span class="has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color">NEXT GEN RAMP PLANS (PDF)</span></strong></a><a href="https://ridersloungepodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Next-generation-75ft-2.pdf" class="wp-block-file__button" download>Download</a></div>
